Working for yourself can be a rollercoaster of emotions.
When things are going well you’ll find yourself wondering why you didn’t do it sooner but there will of course be times when things don’t go quite your way and being able to motivate yourself to move forward will be an important skill. At those times, it is important to remember all those amazing benefits of working for yourself.
Creative Freedom
When it comes to making decisions about your business, you get the final say. There are no boundaries to stick by (other than those you pride your brand on), no lengthy meetings getting everyone’s input. Any and all decisions are made by you, meaning you can take the business in the direction you want it to go. This is a huge asset if you find yourself in a position where you need a quick change of direction.
Independence
Not being restricted by office hours or someone else’s schedule is the freedom many dream of. Working for yourself means that you work around your own commitments, setting your own working hours. No longer do you have to find 6 weeks of childcare for the summer holidays or miss sports day or the Christmas Nativity.
Job satisfaction
When you work for yourself you pick the work you want to do as well as the client you want to work with. That means getting all the rewards while doing what you love. And what’s more, when you stop loving it, you change your offering!
Variety
Because you’re in control of your own workload, you’ll get opportunities to work on numerous projects with numerous clients. Of course, you’ll also be running all the operations for your own business, so no two days are ever likely to be the same.
You’ll also find that you have more opportunity to upskill. Partly just from working for different clients, different industries and doing different tasks, but also because you’ll find areas you can develop in or learn in order to increase your client experience or improve your service.
Pick your dream team
There are likely to be occasions when you’ll need support. Perhaps with operations within your own business, or to assist clients in areas you don’t have the expertise. Working for yourself means that you can create the perfect support team who you know you can trust and rely on. You may have a Virtual Assistant who you know will pick up the ‘office’ operations when you find you have a high volume of client work, or an associate who can assist with the client work when you have deadlines to meet.
Whatever the reason you started working for yourself, just remember when it gets tough, keep pushing forwards and find your support team.
