We all know it’s good to have goals in life, but do we actually understand why they’re so important?
Whether it’s goals in your personal life or goals in your work life, here are 5 reasons why you need to be goal setting now.
Focus
How often do you jump in the car and not know where you’re headed or what your purpose of doing so is? Driving around until you’ve used all your fuel to come to a stop and not to have got anywhere particularly of use. I would imagine almost never. This is pretty much what happens when you don’t set goals.
By setting goals for yourself you give yourself a target to shoot for. This sense of direction is what allows your mind to focus on a target and rather than waste energy shooting aimlessly, it allows you to hit your target and reach your goal.
Motivation
Goals give you motivation. By knowing exactly what you want and when you want it, you’re setting yourself an ending to strive for and get excited about. This is what’s going to give you that drive to keep going even when things get tough.
Overcome Procrastination
When you set a goal for yourself you make yourself accountable to finish the task. This is the complete opposite when you do things on a whim and it doesn’t matter whether you complete them or not. If you have a long-term goal, it’s a good idea to break it down into smaller chunks so you feel you’re achieving things on the way.
Measuring Success
By setting goals for yourself you are able to measure your progress because you always have an end goal in mind or benchmark to compare with. This is a really important step when setting goals. Measuring your success will allow you to see if you’re where you should be, and if you’re not it allows you to identify that you may need to change your route.
Purpose
Every time you tick off a goal, you’re going to get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride. This is going to give you and your work purpose. By having a goal and reaching it, there was a purpose behind everything you did to get to that point and you know the work and effort you put in had a reason behind it.
We’d love to know what your goals are!
